I'm Mike Sommer. Just another T1d.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes more than 50 years ago. I have been through the gamut of Type 1 diabetes treatment protocols from once-a-day animal insulin shots with urine glucose testing to an Automated Insulin Delivery system.
I married my love 41 years ago and still adore her. Together we raised three children and now have two grandkids. I graduated with a BS in Pharmacy and became a registered pharmacist for around 15 years. During that time I watched my older sister pass away from complications of T1d (kidney failure) and my older T1d brother receive a kidney/pancreas transplant a decade before passing. I know the tragic downside of uncontrolled Type 1. But it doesn't have to be that way! Treatment advances in just the last 5 years have made control both more effective and easy to use.
